Another shorter shrub, the Abelia grows to be about 2 or 3 feet tall and about 4 feet wide. These shrubs grow best in zones 6 through 9, prefer full to partial shade, and are relatively drought tolerant.

Kaleidoscope Abelia – Dwarf, variegated, and semi-evergreen, the Kaleidoscope Abelia starts off yellow and lime green in the spring and changes to orange and red in the autumn. The plant can grow between 2 and 3 feet tall and thrives in zones 6 through 9.

Ed Goucher Abelia – Much like the changing colors of the Kaleidoscope Abelia plant, the Ed Goucher Abelia changes leaf colors during the year. However, this particular variety showcases beautiful branches with funnel-shaped flowers that are light pink during midsummer. This plant gets between 3 and 5 feet tall.

Rose Creek Abelia – The young leaves of the Rose Creek Abelia change from pink to dark green as they mature. This variety also showcases funnel-shaped white flowers with pink sepals in midsummer.
